The E-voting Project is carried out by the Polska Młodych Association – a non-governemental organization, the aim of which is to enable polish citizens to vote via internet. We have been working on this project for over three years now and think it is high time to present the results. We are in possession of an innovative and safe computer system, which meets all standards concerning the voting procedure, specified in The Constitution of Poland. This means that it provides that the elections are universal, equal, direct and to be conducted by a secret ballot. The system has been created by a group of scientists led by Professor Mirosław Kutyłowski and it has not been implemented anywhere else yet. That is why we decided to put it for a practice test. We are planning to carry out a trial, “artificial” election in order to show how the system works and to teach people how to use it. This website provides plenty of information that is essential to understand the structure of that system and the necessity of its implementation. There are citizens who face serious difficulties while voting in the traditional way, for instance: students or employees who live far from the place where they are registered to vote, citizens who temporarily or permanently reside outside of the country, the disabled and the ill, the elderly and many more. All of these people have the right to vote and the government has an obligation to create such conditions, that those difficulties are eliminated. We believe E-voting to be the best solution among all other alternative voting methods. Not only is the voter sure that the vote he casts remains secret but he/she is also able to check whether it has already arrived to the place of its destination and whether it has been taken into account. As the voter votes personally, there is no threat that the vote is different from the voter’s will. Neither postal nor any other voting method gives such a certainty. Internet is a tool of a modern democracy. It ensures that every citizen has the ability to participate in the decision-making process.. Never before has it been so popular in Poland! According to latest surveys there is a computer in 59% of all polish households, and nearly all of them have access to the internet. The e-banking and e-commerce sectors are also developing very quickly, gaining confidence of many people and becoming more and more popular among them. We deeply believe that so will the e-votning!
